It might feel like spring today but winter will be back with a vengeance this weekend.
Highs in the mid-60s are expected Thursday across the Philadelphia region. But the mild weather won’t last long.
The National Weather Service has issued a Hazardous Weather Outlook for the weekend, saying a wintry mix of snow, sleet and freezing rain is possible in Eastern Pennsylvania.
The winter weather, expected Saturday, could affect travel throughout the region, forecasters predict.
The storm is part of a system coming from the central Plains and the Midwest.
“Similar to the Central states, a wedge of cold air will knife into part of the eastern U.S., just as a new surge of moisture arrives Friday night and Saturday,” according to AccuWeather Senior Meteorologist Alex Sosnowski.
“How thick the layer of cold air gets in the atmosphere will determine which areas get freezing rain, versus sleet, versus snow.”
While temperatures will be above freezing during the day Saturday, road conditions could “deteriorate quickly” as evening approaches and temperatures fall into the upper 20s, AccuWeather says.
